This main version of the site uses Frames and Javascript. A No Frames/No Javascript version is also available and if your browser does not have one of these facilities, you would be directed to that version. If you prefer, you can go to the No Frames/No Javascript site.
This is the No Frames/No Javascript version of the site. You may have arrived at this version because your browser does not have one of these facilities.
It is possible that your browser does have them but they have been disabled. If you can enable them (using your browser's Help menu if neccesary), then go to the main Frames/Javascript version.
The content is exactly the same for both versions and both are usable without a mouse but the following facilities differ:
The main menu for the Frames site is on the left. It is interactive and doubles as a visual site map.
The main menu for the No Frames site is at the top under the submenu. It operates more like a normal website and it has 'Skip Menu' links. In addition, access key '2' is a link to skip to main page content.
The No Frames site does not require Javascript for navigation but without it, the following facilities will not be available:
The definitions which pop up when the mouse is moved over a medical term (although these are all included in the Glossary page).
The audio on the 'Listen to Others' page (for which Flash 6 is also required) and the videos on the 'See the Process' page (for which Quicktime is also required) although both sites have transcripts of the audio and video clips.
A text size changing facility is built into the menu of the Frames site. To change the text size of the No Frames site, you will need to use your browser's own text size menu.
The window is split into three sections (frames):
1) Top navigation - to access general pages
2) Left navigation - to access the main content
3) The main content
You may jump clockwise between these sections and the address bar using Control + Tab (+Shift to reverse) and navigate within frames using Tab (+Shift ). Then use Enter to affect the function.
When any page is accessed, the keyboard focus is automatically shifted to the main content (in supporting browsers) so that the vertical scrollbar may be moved straight away with the up and down arrows.
Tabbing within the page allows access to links as well as the glossary
pop up definitions.
It is recommended that you use the 'Next' arrows at the bottom of each
page to go through the site.
Use Shift + Tab twice to get to the text size options below the left
menu (or the 'Return' link, which may at times appear in place of the
text panel). Continue with Shift + Tab to go up through the left navigation
menu from the bottom.
